At least I hope it was a recording...

It's hard both because I care and because there's nothing I can do to make it better. Without what happened two weeks ago it would be bad enough but this is terrifying and tragic. There are times when the circumstances require that you be sad, and being sad the only good thing that can be done. I wish they didn't happen to you so often. They are things that I can't fix, no matter how many times I stare at the floor in shock. It wouldn't be my place anyway. When bad things happen I don't know what to say and I'm sorry.

12/18/00
ugh.
If any of you out there is thinking of taking two math final exams in one day, I wouldn't recommend it. Oy. But it's all over and I put my records in my laundry basket and drove home, never to return (if never can be interpreted as not for a few weeks).
I did find out something interesting today, though, but it's probably only interesting to me. You know the Masters of the Hemisphere "Billy Mitchell"? I always thought it was just a made up guy, but I looked at an envelope on Zak's floor and the stamp had a picture of a guy and fighter plane and said "Billy Mitchell". Huh.

yayyay!
Awesome weekend! The show was great, the Grange was great, everybody was great, and even the ride home wasn't that bad (thanks to Ted's amazing directions that got me from the bottom of Rhode Island to Schenectady in three and a half hours). I did get amazingly lost on my way to the Middle East, during rush hour no less, but after stopping three times to get directions, I worked my way there with about 4 hours to spare. If it wasn't so cold I would have explored more, but that's alright. But yeah everything about that trip was so awesome and everyone was so incredibly nice to shy ol' me.

12/14/00
It's t-shirt weather!
Snow snow snow today! Ariel even had a snowday (back in my day, they wouldn't cancel school because of a little snow, or chunks of fiery death falling from the sky, or swarms of locusts...)
and tomorrow...
I'm absolutely positive that tomorrow will be one of the most super days of my life since I'm going to Boston, seeing Karate and Ida and staying over at the Secret Stars' house. So many obsessions of mine wrapped up into one neat little trip! And for the first time in my life I will set foot in Rhode Island. Wish me luck =)

12/13/00
*sigh*
Yeah, Ariel, I forgot to upload my diary yesterday. Sue me.
Anyway, today I bought myself a tripod! It's a Manfrotto/Bogen 3001 with a 3028 head for anyone who cares. I likes it. It's shiny.
Other than that, I didn't do much of anything. I love being home =)
Look at yesterday's belated entry that shows what happens when I get mad about politics. Unfortunately, that will probably happen more often in times to come. Arg. I'm a divider, not a "uniter".
This is cute though: a picture I took of the now-being-torn-down Mohawk Mall is going to be in the highschool yearbook, thanks to the fact that yesterday Ariel was looking through pictures I took and decided that it was better than the ones the yearbook people took of the mall for the current events section (insert comment on how the demolition of a mall is a big event heehee). She said they might even credit me in the yearbook... which would be weird because I spent all four years of high school avoiding being in that thing.
In 48 hours, I'll be watching Karate and Ida in Boston!

12/12/00
here we go...
Yeah so it seems like the election boondogle is coming to a close. And don't you fucking say "well I'm just glad it's over." It would be far better to have no president than one who would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, would damn the country financially for the sake of a tax cut that would only serve to widen the gap between the rich and the poor and who gleefully executes people convicted through an inherently flawed judicial system. If all anybody cares about is that there is a warm body in the Oval Office, we're fucking doomed.
Eh um anyway, my life... I got film developed (including reprints of a few pictures from the Dec. 2nd show that came out all sorts of messed up), I went back to school to hand in homework and go to a review session for a final that doesn't happen until next monday, I went over to Ariel's, I went home, I got mad at the Supreme Court, and here I am.

oh me oh my
Heehee I just got back from seeing Victor Wooten at the Parting Glass, with Zak, his dad and Ariel. Victor got on the stage at 9pm and was there until 1am. I say goddamn!

12/08/00
huh
why is is that usually when I turn my printer on it just turns on, but when I do it in the morning and don't want to be loud, it sits there for a full two minutes going "whiirrrrrr... beep beep! clunky clunky clunky! whirrrr.... zip zip!..." and so on?

12/07/00
less than 24
So today was stressful. See previous entry. But everyone's alive, except for Ariel's car. I don't like it when people I care about are inches away from death.
...and as for my day... I had a differential equations test that went pretty well. I finished very early, but it was one of those things where I was sitting there after having finished, checked everything over a bunch of times to look busy and was getting really restless until finally someone else handed his paper in, so I bounced. Rah.
Girl X actually had a conversation with me today. Too bad that class is over and I'll probably never see her again...

12/07/00
...
Of all the messages that I never wanted to get on my answering machine, this is the one that scared me the most: "Hi nick it's Ariel. I know that youre in class right now, I just wanted to let you know that I got into a pretty bad car accident today..."
She's not injured, at least physically, though her car is wrecked. *shiver*

12/06/00 (this is the last time, i swear)
muhuhaha
Someone, for the sake of the world's battery supply, should go back in time and prevent me from finding out that I can make the glow-in-the-dark stars on my walls glow really brightly if I shoot my new flash at them.

12/06/00 (again)
hee
him: I'm calling on behalf of... at&t... local phone service... are you in charge of making decisions about your phone service?
me: Yes, but I'm not willing to. *click*

note to world: If you are going to play music loudly at 7 in the morning and wake me up, make sure it's good music. Ok, maybe not even good, but not Steve Fucking Winwood. Ok?

10 days 20 days no days old
So it snowed for about a minute and a half today. It was really weird - I looked out my window, and it was sunny, I looked out again and it was snowing ferociously, I looked out a third time and it was sunny again. Yadda yadda Mark Twain yadda yadda wait a minute...
I got a bunch of cute records and one incredibly cute CD (You Are My Flower by Liz and Dan of Ida) today. My CD player still refused to live, but I can be lame and listen to it with headphones on my computer. This is why I listened to all records except for the afformentioned CD today.
School-wise, it seems like the plan I've been following is to expend as little effort as possible and coast into the end of the semester. This is a bad plan, and I'm not sure who chose it, but it seems I'm stuck with it. On the other hand I think I may have gotten the highest grade in my class on the matrix algebra exam I took last week (a 94 yayaya - and this test was supposed to be significantly harder than the last one, which I got a 79 on. go figure.). (Nick is ignoring the rules for parenthesis today)

12/04/00 (again)
rr
So my CD player is broken. Grr. I kind of feel bad for it - you can tell it's trying really hard to spin the CDs - you hear a straining motor noise and the display panel gets dim when it's making it, but it just can't pull it off. So back to records and tapes, which isn't all that bad.
Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of stuff has been breaking lately?
I don't mind though... because I'm going to see Karate and Ida in 10 days!

12/04/00
don't be afraid to make some plans
So what was I so happy about last time? Well, I'm going to see Karate and Ida play at the Middle East in Boston on the 15th, and Jodi invited me to stay here. So this isn't wearing off. Yayayaya!

12/01/00
"Are you going to tell us already?!?!" Nope!
Omigosh! This is the best thing ever! I'm the happiest kid on the planet right now! Yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayaya!
Heehee. shh.
