Today's big issue: stickstickstick
Today was another one of those days that nothing really big happened. At least I'm home now though..
On the way back from school, me and my mom stopped to pick out a christmas tree. No I don't believe in christianity, but the holidays can still be fun. We got a really strange looking tree. That's what we get for picking one out in the dark. It's not really that bad though. I like it. It has character. I just wish my hands weren't so sticky.
When I got back I didn't really do that much. I talked to Ariel on the phone for like an hour so that was cool. It's nice to be able to talk on the phone. I feel weird doing that I school. I don't know why. I guess I'm so shy that I'm afraid of showing any traces of my personality. It's a bit depressing. Oh well. Me and Ariel will hopefully do something tomorrow, we don't know what and there really aren't that many options to pick from in Schenectady, but we shall see. Too bad neither of us owns a car. We want to go down to Bard again and visit zak, but we can't get there. Spoot.
Haiku of the day:
Four more days of class
And after that are finals
Then I'll be happy

Today's big issue: and another
Another boring day. Not much else to say, really.
Haiku of the day:
I sorta write poems
So many about weather
So am I "emo"?

Today's big issue: brr.
It was SO cold today. My hair froze on the way to class in the morning. Sheesh. Other than that not much happened. At least whatever strange illness i had seems to have gone away... whee.
Haiku of the day:
This winter thing sucks
We never get enough snow
But it is so cold

Today's big issue: Ho Hum
Hmm... what happened today?
This was one of those days where nothing happens that even slightly catches my interest. I got up far too early because I thought I had a chem test, but I really didn't... I went to my calc lecture... went to philosophy... took the calc gateway exam, got an 80 so I have to take it again... played computer games... complained to myself about my sore throat... that's pretty much it. There are only 10 days left until my last class, and I still haven't met anyone on campus that I'd consider a "friend". There are people that I'll talk to, but nobody that I really hang out with. I have more fun when I go back home. School is for being boring and learning stuff, I suppose. I just wish... ah never mind.
Haiku of the day:
Yay it snowed today
I really wanted some snow
But it's all gone now

11/Thanksgiving Break/99
Today's big issue: whee!
It was so great to finally have a substantial vacation, even though after it's all over it feels like I was only gone for a few minutes. So yeah, it sucks to be back but I had fun.
The first night that I got back nothing happened. Not everyone was back yet and pretty much every one that was had to stay with their families. But dat's aite. On wednesday, Kevin and I chilled at Zak's from midnight to 2am. My mom told me earlier that day that I had to be back by midnight, but she was asleep and I figured that since I was at home at midnight, it was officially the following day by the time I left so I could stay out later. She didn't seem to notice anyway.
I spent most of the next day (thursday) at my grandparents. Whee. Not much happened there. I felt kinda out of place being the only vegan since all of my food was in separate bowls, and my mom for some reason insisted that I take pictures of everybody at the table and send them to people. I still haven't done anything with them, mostly for the reason that she never gave me the addresses of the people she wanted me to send them to. So after that I got home hoping that Zak would be back but I gave up calling around midnight.
Friday I went up to my dad's to see the rest of my family that was up for thanksgiving. Me, my brother and my sister Danielle went to Sleepy Hollow. I liked Christopher Walken's teeth. They made the world's scariest looking man look even scarier. Weird.
Then yesterday (saturday) We all finally got together at Zak's house. Matt Gelina wasn't there for some reason and neither was Raessa or Joe, but me, Zak, Eric, Kevin, and Ariel all watched the Transformers movie that I had kept in it's shrinkwrap for that night. It was SO silly. Who would have guessed that Eric Idle and Orson Welles would have done voices for the Transformers? Well anyway after the movie, Sue, Sarah and Ka-Man came over, and it was kinda weird because me and Ariel and Zak and Eric (until he had to leave anyway) stayed on the couch in one room and the other girls stayed in the other room and Kevin went in between. Oh well. A silly thing that happened was that as we were listening to an N.W.A. song ("F_ck the Police") and there's this one part where the guy says "well go at it punk and I'ma fuck you up!" and me and Zak simultaneously pointed at eric and lip synched. Then everybody that was left sat on Zak's couch and we listened to music and played Atari games. I had fun and it was totally something that I needed to do. It's nice to be around people who you don't feel like you have to be doing something special to be comfortable. After that I went home and went to sleep.
Today (sunday) I got up and milled around for a while and then when Zak was up I went back over to his house and Ariel followed shortly. His mom put a picture of a Snark that I made in a frame. (Snarks are the fictional birds that I've been drawing since I was twelve. And no, I didn't know about the Lewis Caroll story before I named them "Snark". Weird, eh?). After that we sat on Zak's couch and then I had to leave in a hurry to get back to my house fifteen minutes late. So then I went back to (shudder) school. I wanted to go to the review session for chemistry, but it didn't appear to be happening and I'm not sure if we have a test tomorrow or not. Oh well. I walked back from the room where the review thing should have been, talked to matt on IM, made dinner and started writing in my diary...
Later on... I got bored and wrote a strange email and sent it to a bunch of people. I decided to post it up in the thoughts section since I hadn't added anything to that in forever. So here it is....
Haiku of the day:
Oh shit i'm back now
This wasn't unexpected
But I don't like it

11/22/99
Today's big issue: less than 24 hours...
Not that much happened today. I finished and handed in an essay this isn't due for a week and a half, sat through calc class... took a chem test... pretty standard monday other than the fact that I did work far before it was due.
I talked to eric on IM and he should soon be the proud owner of River City Ranson for the NES. We are going to play that game so hardcore when we're back. Huh.. we're going to play old video games, watch the transformers movie... see, we're not really "young adults" at all. And it's going to stay that way if things turn out like I want.
I suppose I should start worrying about what I'm going to do for a living once I get out of college. It seems like my best option is to be a professor or a teacher or something since that's the only way I could study what I want to and still have a job that uses it. But I'm not a teaching type person really... I don't know I've never really tried it and sometimes it can be fun to help friends with their stuff so maybe... I guess that would be pretty cool... as long as I don't turn into one of the teachers that I dislike and I'm not stuck teaching boring stuff forever. I guess research is still something that I want to do but that pretty much implies being a professor unless I were to work for a corporation, but they suck and I don't think they want people trained in philosophy as well as science. Oh well this should be interesting. As long as I make enough money to have a Mac and enough Tofu to live on... and Legos.
Haiku of the day:
They went out to drink
I don't want them to come back
While I'm here at least

11/19-21/99
The weekend's big issue: whee!
This whole weekend was fun in a pretty bizarre kind of way. Me and Ariel decided to go to the battle of the bands at RPI on saturday and a couple of hours before we left we found out that Joe was in town, so he came too. On the way Ariel took a picture of a car named Fiesty P. When we got there (after getting confused as to where it was and finally getting to West Hall, the dilapidated old building where it was being held) we came in during one of the first band's songs. We found out along the way that it was an 18+ show, but luckily there wasn't anyone guarding the door so we got in even though Ariel isn't remotely 18... but it really wasn't worth it... we left 2 and a half songs into the first band's set. I... disliked them. We left in the middle of their second Spinal Tap cover. I mean one Spinal Tap song could be good for camp value, but two?
But that didn't ruin things in the least. We walked around the campus for a while, and I took some pictures that didn't come out very well because it was dark out. Joe jumped on a box and broke a garbage can. Very silly. Then we went back to my dorm room and chilled for a while and listened to records and talked and watched some of the Blackblean and Placenta Video Compilation that I had (I just had to show them the Marine Research and Aikagi videos). Then we decided that we wanted to do something, but then realized where we were and that there really isn't anything around here that you can just go out and do. So we went to a supermarket. It was pretty fun, though. I bought (or rather I picked out and Joe bought for me because he is such a sweetie) a few comic books and an iced tea that it turned out not to be nick-food because it has honey in it so I gave it to my dad. You would think that if there is a "green tea with ginsing and honey" that the "green tea with ginsing and plum juice" from the same company wouldn't have honey in it. Oh well. Joe bought a whole bottle of grenadine (the violently sweet red goo that makes shirly temples and other non-alchoholic drinkey type things) and tried to drink it. He actually liked it.. when me zak and eric did the same thing we forsook all things sweet forever (well for a whlie anyway. we drank lemon juice though...).
So now there's just two more school days and I get to go home and see everybody who's going to be up. It should rule. I'm not sure how things are going to work out as far as getting everyone in the same place at the same time, but I'm going to try really hard to have it be saturday night.
Haiku of the day:
Monday tuesday done
I have two more days to go
Then it's gonna rock

11/18/99
Today's big issue: sched.
So I did my schedule for next semister today. It's ok I guess.. but get this: I'm taking a class called "Advanced Dinosaurs". That's right. Nick's taking a class on dinosaurs. Not just any dinosaurs class, though. This isn't just "Introduction to Dinosaurs" this is ADVANCED mothafukin dinosaurs. Yeah I know it's kinda lame to go to college to learn about things that most 8 year olds are experts on, but i think some of the evolutionary stuff should be interesting and relevant to what I'm doing. Ok, actually I'm taking the class because it's fucking cool to take a class on dinosaurs in college. Plus all of the other science electives that would fit in my schedule were filled up so I didn't really have a choice. But really I'm looking forward to this class. Who says something can't be real science while being fun? The bizarre classes usually tend to be the ones you learn the most from because they are outside of what you know and you have no idea what to expect. Of course it's a four credit course so the professor will probably make it really difficult to exact revenge on the people that say his/her class is lame, but I actually won't mind that, I'm kinda expecting that and looking forward to a difficult class about dinosaurs.
But anyway, the week is almost over and i have to pull myself through the last day... I've been entirely too busy lately. That seems strange since I've been playing atari 2600 games on my computer, but I have a lot of work to do and things that I want to to (like write a review of the absolutely wonderful I See Spots CD I got this week) have sort of not been happening because of chemistry labs. But next semister I won't have chemistry... I'll have advanced dinosaurs. (evil grin)
So three more school days until thanksgiving break... tick tick tick tick tick tick...
Haiku of the day:
Advanced dinosaurs
Now there's a high level class
But I'll learn something

Today's big issue: brr.
Sometimes living at a dorm is like living inside of a highschool. Today, someone in one of the dorms next to me decided that it would be fun to put some things in the microwave that would burn and set off the smoke detectors. So he did. And they went off. He probably went someplace warm. We all had to stay outside for like 20 minutes while the fire people came by. Did I mention how cold it was? It was cold. I involuntarily hopped around and chattered my teeth. Then the rent-a-cop security guy gathered all of the people who were standing around cursing the bastard that did this and trying to avoid dying together and yelled at us because he was certain that someone knew who did it. He kept on saying "this isn't funny" and "this isn't a joke" but no one was laughing; we were just saying "i'm cold" and shivering. I think he just wanted to be mad at the punk kids. Grr.
But at least we got our heat fixed today... it wasn't working before and that's why it was so cold in here. Now it's too hot. Whee.
Less than a week.
Haiku of the day:
I hate fire alarms
I hate them more when it's cold
So don't yell at me

11/16/99
Today's big issue: did today happen?
hmm... uneventful. I went to school and read today. And I walked. It's cold. La. The only interesting thing that happened to me today was reading a Nikolai Gogol book... it's really bizarre and funny. You should read it.
Haiku of the day:
i want a camel
i don't know why i said that
except for bordom

11/15/99
Today's big issue: snow!
It snowed here today! Just for a little bit and just a few flakes, but it was enough to make me happy. I love snow. I love it even more now since I don't have to shovel here. Woohoo!
So i found out that i'm dumb and forgot to upload the review that i wrote on saturday. whoops. it's up now.
And I got a cd in the mail today that I really love: Cantilevered Heart by I See Spots. Review to come shortly, once i've listened to it more. I like it though- it kinda reminds me of kincaid., only more meloncholy. I dig.
Haiku of the day:
Counting down the days
I'll be home this time next week
Do i hear ticking?

11/14/1999
Today's big issue: wherefore carrots?
I got into a "fight" with my mom because she snuck a huge bag of carrots in with the rest of my stuff. I didn't know what to do with them so I ended up throwing them out. I felt like a jerk doing it, but there really wasn't much else I could do. They would go bad in my sock drawer and i didn't have room in the fridge. So I called her and asked her not to do that and she got mad at me. I mean yeah she was just trying to be helpful, but a big bag of carrots?
This week is mostly going to be a countdown until next week. There is a p-funk show at valentine's on thursday, but i don't know if it's the real p-funk with george clinton and bootsy or if it's just two guys who once set up microphones for george clinton's uncle who call themselves p-funk. Zak's going to ask his dad and if it's uncut funk, the bomb, we'll probably go. Hopefully. I'm not sure how things would work out and i found out about it on a bit of a short notice, but I'll see. I think the RPI battle of the bands is on saturday, and if it is me & ariel (and maybe zak if he comes back, i haven't asked him about it yet) will probably go. It should be fun. Yay! I like it when i have something to look forward to at the end of the week.
Hmm... capital.net doesn't seem to be working at the time that I'm writing this... web connections get refused and fetch is just sort of sitting there saying it's connecting... but i'm sleepy. i'll upload this in the morning i guess.
Haiku of the day:
counting down to break
there are less than two weeks left
i hope i make it

11/13/1999
Today's big issue: blahblah
Not much at all happened today. Got up. Did laundry. Took shower. Played video games. Wrote a bit. Bought a lot of things involving soy beans in some way.
Anyway, I do have my hopes for this week. I mean, not much is happening in the way of what I'm going to do at school, but apparently, according the the flyer that was on me & ariel's table at the show last night, the RPI battle of the bands is next saturday, so I'll probably go to that. Plus, next wednesday is the beginning of my thanksgiving break and I'm so exited about being able to see everybody again. Well, almost everybody. I guess I'll have to wait until xmas to really see everybody... but anyway, I'll see a lot of people, hopefully. There are some people that I hopefully won't see but I don't like to get into that sort of thing (if you're wondering if it's you, it's not).
So yeah, another weekend spent daydreaming about other weekends and singing along to Belle and Sebastian with my headphones on. Fun.
Haiku of the day: There's just nine more days
then we can all chill again
but not everyone

11/11/1999
Today's big issue: elf elf elf elf
Whee "eleventwelve phone call eleveneleven wish comes true but it's too late for week old i love yous"... (you'll only get it if you've listened to the really great Everybody Asked About You "Handsome, Beautiful" 7")... but anyway... yeah today... hmm. not much happened, but I don't care I get to go home and go to a show tomorrow! yay! there actually was a show tonight at valentine's that was probably pretty great, but I just couldn't make it. Oh well. School school school.
It was nice and FRIGID today. But I still went to class in the morning without a coat and wearing a short sleeved shirt. Hee works better than coffee, I guess. I had fun though. Lots of scowling people warm in their coats while I was walking around gleefully underdressed. hee. After all the classes, I was planning on taking this exam thingie we have to take for calculus that we can take any monday or thursday until december 10th or so, but when I got there the room was full so I couldn't take it. So I trudged back and played computer games and did a chemistry lab.
This is my impression of Final Fantasy II (which I was playing):
Oh no! the bad guy stole the crystal! he's trying to get all four! we have to stop him from getting the next one!
oh no! the bad guy stole the second crystal! we have to stop him from getting the third one!
oh no! the bad guy stole the third crystal! we have to stop him from getting the last one!
oh no! the bad guy stole the last crystal! Wait! I forgot about the other crystals! we have to stop him from getting those!... and that's where I am :)
Whee! SimpleText just told me that this has gotten too long for it to deal with... that's a milestone I guess... so I have to split the page up somehow...(thinks) ok...
Haiku of the day:
Yay almost friday
Well if you're really picky
It's friday right now

11/10/1999
Today's big issue: and so on...
Today was a pretty nothing day. I got a 100 on my chem test that I took on monday; this makes 3 in a row! Woohoo! I have no idea why this is happening. I still get bad grades on the labs, so I don't see why I've got such a high test average. Ah well. I'll take whatever help I can get in that class.
Other than that, not much happened. I talked to Ariel on the phone and found out that her mom is just as good at embarassing her as my mom is at embarassing me. Hee hee oh well it's all in the name of fun.
I got an email from buy.com sayiing that they just shipped my printer today. Too bad I got the package yesterday. Still, I don't mind. I'd rather have the printer yesterday than the email yesterday.
A nice person pointed out that I said that Belle and Sebastian was from Ireland in my Tigermilk review when they are actually from Scotland. I don't know why I said Ireland. Silly silly silly. It's weird how many bands are from Scotland when there are so few from Ireland... I just assumed that they were Irish just to make it fair :).
Haiku of the day:
I was so happy
since tomorrow is friday
but it's really not

11/09/1999
Today's big issue: hee hee! The funniest thing happened in physics class: I watched this kid who sits near me get a confused look on his face, reach into his pocket and slowly pull out two bananas and nonchalantly hide them in his backpack, all the while looking embarrassed and as if he didn't know how they got there. I think I was the only one who saw him, and I must have looked pretty silly myself trying to avoid laughing. It was so silly.
And my new printer came today! Yay! And it works beautifully! I'm glad I got it. Now I can print photographs and they actually look like photographs! yay! and I can do big big BIG prints, like 13x44! yay!
Haiku of the day:
one banana two
How they got there i don't know
Well away they go
