Diary6/09/00Today's big issue: *grunt* It really sucks to not have a working record player. It seems that the second it broke, a whole bunch of records jammed themselves into my head and now I really really really need to listen to them. the Metronome Urban Spaces EP and Karate's first album in particular... hopefully my new cartridge will get here soon... But there is absolutely magnificiently fantastically wonderful news! I'm going to go to a Secret Stars show!!!! Ok, so I don't have any specific plans yet, but I'll be at the Orensanz Foundation for the Arts at 7:00 on July 18th or be really fucking depressed. Ida's going to be there, too! I'm bouncing off the walls with anticipation. Ariel screamed really loudly, for she will be at camp and unable to go. 6/09/00 Today's big issue: huh. Search phrases that have directed people to my site: "boston smut" "stupid annoying people" "kids porno" "the ninja today" "annoy japanese" "hooray for crack" and my favorite, "nžÊÏ0ñ+(jËj¥ØÏ~9>kÌöÐ+±~fÊj…g{$´Ø[Òtzÿn£€^.£á!®wªSÿ¤lÖoÜ1Ó>µÐ@y" 6/08/00 Today's big issue: barf on a... pavement Ariel and I were witness to a drive-by vomiting. We were walking her dog and when we got back to her street, we heard what I thought were coughing noises at first and then it became apparent that they were puking noises and then they (ugh) "climaxed" and a car that was pulled over drove away, leaving a pool of sick in the road. Nice. After that, I went over to Zak's and chilled with Matt, Zak, Kevin and Eric. We had shots of lemon juice. All of that alcohol crap is for pansies, give me fruit juice that makes my head contort. 6/07/00 Today's big issue: GRRRAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!! I broke another freaking phonograph cartridge! This sucks so much! I was playing the new Of Montreal album and I accidentally smacked the tonearm into the record, leaving a nice little gash (luckily in the flat part in the middle where the music doesn't live) and completely removing the diamond. So now I had to order a new cardtridge, which set me back $170, and I have to go without all my records until it gets here. At least I'm going to finally have a badass moving coil cartridge, I guess. I was going to write more reviews today, including that Of Montreal album, but I guess I'll have to wait for my motor skills to improve. This update is early because I'm waiting for Zak to call since he's out at the moment. I have time to kill so I figured I should write this now rather than when I get back... 6/06/00 Today's big issue: today was the big day Katie got back from Brazil today! I didn't see her at all, but she's back in town after being on a different continent for a year... More chilling was done today. You can read the previous entries if you really care what that's like I suppose. I get to annoy Matt and Kevin about their evil jobs. Matt works for GE now and Kevin has to work at Radio Shack and sell PCs to unwitting people who would be much happier with Macs. "Nosir! None of that for me! I'd rather be jobless than give up mah morals," he said, throwing his last boot into the pot. I started a Big Orange Crayon forum! I found out that CGI scripting isn't that hard (well, when you use someone else's script it isn't). No, I didn't steal it, I got it here. Just adapting it to fit in with the site design and getting it to run in general was a few hours of work, though... hence no new reviews just yet. I do have a huge backlog of stuff that I want to review, though. Thing is, I've been over at Zak's house from the time when I'm functional in the morning until just before I go to bed, so time hasn't been there. I haven't gotten a chance to adequately listen to all of the stuff that I want to review, let alone form opinions on it. 6/05/00 Today's big issue: another day, another delayed update... Yay, so the weekend was fun. On saturday, Zak and his family disappeared to go out into the countryside, so Kevin, Matt and I were left to fend for ourselves. Matt disappeared into the stockade district, so Kevin and I decided that since we had nothing better to do, we should go find him and go to a park and play frisbee where no one would see us. We drove out there, wandered around for a while and then gave up. After that we went to Media Play, again since we didn't have anything better to do. I bought headphones since I stepped on my last pair and mangled them. Then again we went back to Kevin's house and tried to find Matt - he wasn't at his house but apparently he had been calling Kevin's house all day. Quite mysterious. So then we were sitting on his house when he got another call from Matt, this time from right outside Kevin's house. Whichever parent that decided to lend Matt a cellular phone needs to think things through more carefully... So then we went to the park. Because of the big storm a few days ago, there were trees down everywhere (and the big willow tree at my dad's house got uprooted - I'm so upset). We couldn't find a good place to play and a police officer yelled at us for climbing on the geodesic dome. Ah well. After that, Zak was back so we went to his house and chilled. Sunday was pretty fun, too. Nothing particularly exciting happened, but at least I got to see most of my homies. Even Ariel managed to get over to Zak's house for a little whlie. The big thing was playing Carmaggeddon. Oh how we played Carmageddon. We're such dorks. I brought over my Powerbook, and Kevin brought over his G3 tower and his dad's iBook so we had four computers sitting in Zak's room, playing this insane game of car smashing. It was me, Kevin, Zak, Eric and occaisionally Zak's little sister, Pisie, playing. We wanted Ariel to come over and bring her mom's powerbook, but since her parents were out, she had to stay home, lest something happened to her brother. Also, we decided on a new rule that has been effect for two days: whenever you're in a car and the time reads 12:34 at night, everyone in the car must scream for the full minute. Don't try to argue, this is the law. And, um, the Secret Stars/Ida split 7" is up for auction on eBay, however I cannot participate because I have no money. Curses. Plus, twenty six dollars is too much money for a 7", even if it is from the two best bands in the universe. 6/01/00 Today's big issue: you won't survive the information age... Bad Nick! Bad! I keep neglecting this page for things like being with my friends. Tsk tsk. That's not really an excuse because it's not like I'm rushing out the door in the morning. Anyway... Anyway, yesterday I went to this big thing dedicated to my dad for all of his work for the community - my grandparents and sister were all up for it and there were lot of politicians there and not many dry eyes at my family's table when my dad made his speech. It was pretty cute... Today, I had to get up early-ish because there were people making an "addition" to our driveway. They didn't knock on the door until noon, but I still answered it all scraggly-haired, without my glasses, and barefoot. I suck. Less than three weeks until Ariel goes off to summer camp. It sucks so much: she leaves the day after her school finishes which means that I'll never ever get to just spend time with her when she isn't busy with school. It's like she's still here and I miss her already if that makes any sense. No, it doesn't... I'm too obsessive about seeing my friends, aren't I? Bright Eyes is playing a show at Valentine's tomorrow and I can't freaking go because it's twenty fucking one and up. Well, that was a cheery entry, wasn't it? np: the Lucksmiths - a Good Kind of Nervous 5/29/00 Today's big issue: lay your foot down on the gas, leave it there until you crash Heh, so I wrote that last entry (below) involving how I felt bad about now updating this as often as i should and then I forgot to upload it... Anyway, today was kinda neat, I guess. It was all up at my dad's house, since my grandparents are up from Orlando and my sisters were up. It's very cute; my grandpa is so proud of his new knees. I dunno, just a day at home with the family, I guess. We played kick ball. I miss my friends, though. Ariel got back from being away (in Connecticut or Mass. I forget) I called, but her train was delayed so she didn't get back until she had to go to bed to go to school tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to see my peeps... 5/27/00 Today's big issue: the world is round i talk in circles the world is round... Ok, so when I was at school, I said that I would update this page more often when I was out of school, and now that I'm out of school I always neglect it. Whoopsie. Anyway, the day before yesterday, Zak, Matt and I went to see Topsy Turvy at proctors. It was a pretty entertaining movie and all of the people had pretty impressive facial hair. I would so get a handlebar moustache if I lived in the 1800s. Although I think one would look stupid on me, it's entertaining when everyone looks stupid together. Yesterday, Zak, Matt and I went to see a play at the Union college theatre, which was pretty good, too. It was about a fictional meeting between Picasso and Eintein in a French bar. There was lots of romantic irony (you know, actor says to other character that he can't be on the stage and produces a copy of the script to prove it) and uh... Elvis showed up. Weird weird weird, but fun. Right now I'm sitting at my dad's house. My sister and her family are up from Washington, so I'm visiting, too. I'm going to leave early to go to the show at Valentine's tongiht, though. 5/25/00 Today's big issue: lots of things Today was pretty nice - I got to chill with most of my peeps. Ariel came over around 5 or so and we hung out for about an hour - I helped her make a tape and we listened to Of Montreal. Zak finally got back from school today! Of course I went over to his house and so did Kevin and Matt and Eric. Zak's television is broken, so we didn't even do any of that. I just got some really sad news: Pat, the drummer for Method of Groove, died yesterday. I really don't know what to say - they were really starting to take off and he was really talented and besides that he was a 23 year old person who shouldn't have died... 5/22/00 Today's big issue: ... So I was watching the teevee a little while ago and this commercial for Miracle Grow came on. That old guy who does the commercials said that "a university study proved that plants grown with Miracle Grow grow to be twice as large as those without." I want to know what university this was. Maybe it's the snobby physics major in me, but that sounds more like an elementary school study than a university study. Good job kid, the plants with fertilizer grew bigger and the ones you threw in the closet got moldy. Here's a gold star. Anyway, another lazy day where I didn't do a damn thing. Sheesh we can't seem to do anything when Zak isn't around. np: Of Montreal - horse and elephant eatery (no elephants allowed) the singles & songles album 5/21/00 Today's big issue: la. I've accomplished very little in the last two days. Partly because there hasn't been anything to accomplish and partly because I've been overcome with the strange laziness that keeps me from doing things that I even enjoy doing. Whatever. Hopefully it will pass. I totally destroyed the cartridge on my turntable today. Luckily I had an old one of my dad's, which actually is much nicer and better sounding than the cheap old one I used before, so all is well. Other than that... I talked to people on AIM. Maybe I should get a job... well Zak will be back soon and I'm sure my opinion will change. And I'm really sad about the fact that Ariel is going to be gone for the whole summer. I really wish it was possible to have everyone together at the same time without anyone having to worry about school or jobs or anything else. I think the big problem is that it's impossible to have both a sense of complete happiness and a sense of permanancy at the same time due to the way that all of our lives are set up. 5/19/00 Today's big issue: roar. Today actually turned out to be pretty cool. Kevin came back! Him, Matt, Eric, Ariel and I all went to see Dinosaur, too. It was... ok, I guess. It was nice to look at, at least. Is anyone else troubled by the fact that it's a movie about dinosaurs at the time of the KT Extinction and it has a happy ending that doesn't even touch upon the fact that they're doomed? Ah well. I think I've finally gotten good at being worthless. 05/16/00 Today's big issue: yay! Just got back from an awesome awesome awesome show. I took pictures. I'll review tomorrow (morning-ish?). Me tired. Anyway, yeah, mad people suddenly became hard to get a hold of before I left for the show, so - MattG! Eric! Joe! Where are you? I'm a jerk, too. I called Ariel a little bit before I left, and she was eating dinner so she asked if she could call me back when she was done and I said "sure" and then we hung up and a little while later I left before she called. Oh I hate me, too. Anyway... np: Masters of the Hemisphere - I am not a Freemdoom (so so SO good. I review soon, da?) 05/15/00 Today's big issue: *yaawn* I'm really tired. I shouldn't be tired, since I didn't do anything, but I guess I'm just not in a rational mood. =) Today me and matt went to the Costumer, which is a neato place in schenectady. I bought a derby and a fake moustache! whee! Other than that... not much. Me and Ariel are sending a get well card to Davey of the Promise Ring, so I got that all addressed and I'm sending it tomorrow. I vote tomorrow, too! 05/14/00 Today's big issue: rad. Yay mothers day. I haven't done much all day. Yesterday rocked, though. A whole big group of us, Zak, Matt G, Matt B, Ariel, Eric, and I all jumped into the Suburban Attack Vehicle that my mom is letting me use lately and we went to the thrift shop. I bought four silly records - you have to love thrift shop records: they're fifty cents each and that gives you the chance to buy some really bizarre music that you would never get if you had to pay a real price. I got two "Hawaiian" records, a generic 50s operetta LP (which has a song called "Donkey Serenade"), and a refreshingly stereotypical 1989 hip hop LP. I was going to buy this hideous green sportcoat that fit me perfectly, but I backed out. Even at ten dollars, it was way overpriced =) That place rocks, though. After the thrift shop, we went to Army/Navy. There was cool stuff there, but it was way too expensive. They had these awesome mailman clothes, but they were a.) so expensive that a full mailman outfit would have cost me over $200 and b.) probably off limits to people who aren't mailmen. Oh well. Then we got back to Zak's house and we had "the Summit" for the Pimpwar alliance that is comprised of Zak, Eric, Al and I. Soon, no sucka will be able to front. After some more fooling around, me, Zak, Matt B, and Eric all ended up in Eric's basement. So, I guess it was a pretty full day. I'm going to have a job for a few days! Me and Eric are going to stuff envelopes for Matt's mom's union for two days. Hey, I have nothing else to do, and I probably need the money. np: Masters of the Hemisphere - I Am Not A Freemdoom (oh my gosh this is so good) 05/12/00 Today's big issue: yesterday still, actually Pictures from last night's birthday of Zak celebration and trip to the supermarket: If either Eric or Zak gets rich and fameous, I could probably get a lot of money for this picture 05/11/00 Today's big issue: word If everything turns out like I hope, I won't be able to update this later on, so I figured I would now. Zak's back in town and so is Matt! Yay! It's Zak's birthday, too! I got him a Throwbot. Hopefully I'll see him later... Matt came over to visit me and my brother and we went to that creepy place called Mowhawk Mall. It's a stinky place. It used to be a mall, but now it's just a big old dead thing with three stores. I refrained from buying a Powerpuff Girls poster. I really have been wanting to write new reviews, but hmm I don't know, I guess I don't have an excuse. Ah well. Soon! I've been playing this weird old Mac game called Stunt Copter today. Here's a silly animation of the silly part. np: Trolley Bus Music Tour comp. 05/10/00 Today's big issue: blahoy! I got the Secret Stars Shrimper tape in the mail! Yay! I'm a dork. I'm such a dork dork dork dork. I'm not as bad as I used to be I guess. I used to collect Magic cards. You remember those, things, right? It was lame. It was so lame, but it did it and I can't hide from that fact any more. I finally dug my old binder of cards and put it up for auction on eBay. Sheesh I'm such a dork. Oh, lordy... anyway I needed the money and I'm glad to get rid of them. I'm throwing out/burning the rest. So, let me get this right. I'm writing about my eBay auction of Magic cards on my webpage. Kneel down before the king of nerds. np: the Secret Stars - Shrimper tape (like I had to say that) 05/09/00 Today's big issue: huh? Today was a confusing day, full of questions. "When will this heat end?" "What am I going to do all summer?" And, most importantly, "How on Earth did a pretzel end up inside my guitar?" I mean, it has been a long long time since I've eaten a pretzel and even longer since I've done so while sitting inside of a musical instrument. I suspect foul play. 05/08/00 Today's big issue: dadedodide Today I went to Eric's house! We've both been basically done with school for a week but this was the first time we visited. We're weird, I guess. He hooked my up with some kick ass computer games for me to run in Virtual PC: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, the Kyrandia series, and the Orion Conspiracy (he says this one is a punishment). Other than that, today was more of trying to ignore the fact that it's way too hot outside... And this is just disturbing. Who do you want for your incarcerated penpal? Be sure to include at least two pictures! [shakes head, ashamed to be a part of the human race =)] And alas and alack for I no longer have a 4.0. I got a B in Calculus II, shame of all shames... so now i have a lowly 3.87. *sigh* np: Belle and Sebastian - the Boy With the Arab Strap 05/07/00 Today's big issue: *pant* Oh lordy is it ever hot outside. I think it got up to 89 degrees today. Oh, hush all you southern people with your even-higher-than-that temperatures. Anything over 70 degrees no longer has a temperature and just goes into the category "too hot". Yes, I'm a northeastern boy, born in january and I can't take the heat. Speaking of heat, my grandmother now knows that I don't have a job for the summer, so this means that I would have time to visit her in Orlando, Florida. I've never been in a state deeper south than North Carolina. I just can't stand the thought of those hot states, I guess. I still have this mental image of people wearing overalls with no shirts underneath when I think of those states. I mean, I suppose Florida is different because of all of the retired people who move there, but I have a different prejudice against Florida, which is for some reason I have this feeling that the whole state smells like salt and chlorine. Mind you, I've never been there, but that's just the image I have. *shrug* Anyway, today was mostly nice. I actually had Ariel over at my house. For some reason I hardly ever have people over at my house, I usually go to other people's. I don't know why, but I figured I'd break the pattern. We didn't really do much, we just chilled (or as much as two people can chill in an unairconditioned upstairs room on a hot day) and played records and talked about wolf spiders. She disapproves of the way my Masters of the Hemisphere sticker covers up the I Am The World Trade Center and Momus stickers. Ah well. =) Matt has a really interesting thing on the Poster Children show he more or less went to on saturday night on his page (click on "daily"). Even though he wasn't allowed in (damn those 21+ shows) I still wish I was there. Sigh. Why can't the Pkids come to Albany more often? np: Yesteryear - Under the Rug The older entries are here... |
