Big Orange Crayon

musical things

April 16 show at SUNY with The Method of Groove, The Orange and Me & Jeremy

SUNY security sucks. It sucks because its so present. Once we finally got let in, we had to go through metal detectors and then leave our IDs with the securiy people so they could photocopy them. Lame. I don't know what they were expecting, but it seemed a little too paranoid for the circumstances. I mean, at RPI all we had to do to get into shows was to walk in and sit down. No being yelled at by security people or anything. Oh well, thats not what's important anyway.

When we finally got into the room, we were greeted by the boring, too-loud, and repetitive sounds of DJ something-or-other (not his name, I don't remember it and its not important). DJs suck. Especially those types that have no intention of doing anything dancable or enjoyable or interesting, they just lay out average drum machine beats and leave it on loop and walk away. Once he was done, the real show started. But he came back between the bands. rrr.

The first ones on were The Method of Groove. I didn't like them too much, but I didn't really dislike them so I'm going to move on.

The Orange were on second and they totally kicked ass. They had great songs and their lead singer has a great yell. Their set was a lot of fun. It also helps that the bass player is in my gym class, but that aside they still were great. I think I'm going to start going to a lot of their shows now. They have a kinda punk/pop sound, but not the standard NOFX/Blink 182/Countless other bands kind of punk/pop that I am so sick of that the thought of them makes me bored, its actually interesting and would get a lot of radio play in a better world.

Me & Jeremy were on next, and although I've seen them do better shows, it was still a lot of fun. I actually did that jumping up and down thing on that one song that they do that I've never heard them say the name of (In the Country?). I got kinda pissed off at some people who were yelling for Bim Skala Bim during their set, though. I mean, yeah they're the headlining band, but why go for the whole show if you don't want to listen to other bands? asshole. Anyway, that was a lot of fun too, despite the crowd, who didn't seem to be as cool as the one at Valentine's.

Bim Skala Bim and Pent went afterwards, but Joe and I don't really like Ska all that much so we left and got a mushroom and olive pizza. I had a diet coke and Joe had a sprite.
