Big Orange Crayon

musical things

Aikagi
Waterproof Leaf
Blackbean and Placenta

Shonen Knife is to candy as Aikagi is to a shot of pure, liquified sugar injected directly into your heart. This album made me smile when I first put it in and then as I listened more I actually got into spurts of giggling. This is the happiest Japanese pop music that a person can listen to without exploding into a cloud of rainbows and star-shaped sparkles. It is astoundingly cute. There is no way to describe its cuteness. You MUST listen to this album.

Even the packaging is amazingly cute. The booklet is made of construction paper for dog's sake! And there are little happy faces and a little four-legged thingie with a big smiley face and Japanese writing on it labeled "big chiccho!". No explanation, it's just there. Did I mention the smiling, singing frog on the cover?

So now you know what to expect. If you like happy music, this album will become part of your being. You won't be able to go through a day without listening to "Curry Cook". None of the lyrics make much sense, but I don't care. They make me smile. If you don't like happy music, well, then go in a corner and sulk because you will hate this.

Total score: 815 out of 815
