Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsAlgebra Spaghetti Reverie Siesta But first... a note for all of you who like dramatic irony:Ê I later found out that not only is Maria Napoleon a group, but one composed of Shazna Currie and Nick Currie.Ê The latter is more commonly known as Momus, so there is no need to worry about Nick (the one writing this) never finding anything more from these people, but if you want to, you can watch him play out his fate before you, unbeknownst to him.Ê Now, back to the review-type-thing... ...actual review starts here... "A children's fantasypop album."Ê That's what it says on the cover and that's pretty much what it is.Ê Its a compilation of lots of different artists doing songs for children.Ê Some songs, specifically all of the songs by Sunshine Day, are a little too Carpenters for me, but there is a lot of good buried in with all that.Ê Specifically, the songs by Maria Naponeon, who I don't know to be either a band or a single person, but whoever it is, I want more.Ê She/They are amazingly creative within their two allotted songs (how did they only get two and Sunshine Day get four?).Ê "Mandalay Cow" is one of the most ridiculous songs I've heard in a while, centered around a talking cow and a tour of India.Ê Its kinda technoish, with kinda spoken wordish lyrics, but it still very children's music-ey.Ê It also has this really cool cow voice on it.Ê The other Maria Napoleon song is "Estridentistas", which is also along the same kiddietechno line, only spooky.Ê Its really neat. The only problem is that the rest of the album is pretty much not noteworthy.Ê "Jelly Jungle of Orange Marmalade" is enjoyably cute and 60s britpoppy and the songs by Today's Pop Symphony are all cool and atmospheric, but there isn't much else there to hold your attention.Ê But I don't care because Maria Napoleon is so cool.Ê So there.       Oh yeah, if anyone finds out about any more stuff put out by Maria Napoleon, PLEASE tell me about them.Ê Really.Ê Its that good.Ê And she/they gets extra credit for incorporating the phrase "for Krishna's sake" into a song.
