Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsBarcelona Simon BASIC March Records Flat out- if you like Wolfie, you will like this. In addition, if you are a dweeb, you will like this. So it comes as no suprise that I really really love this album. If you know what Wolfie sounds like (or another of the indie pop bands of that ilk which seem to be increasing in numbers lately), Barcelona will sound pretty familiar: boy/girl vocals, fairly simple guitar, keyboard and drum parts. It's light, fun indie pop at its best. And the lyrics are pretty fun, too: lots of stuff about playing with computers and acting silly. Nothing that's going to change your world view, but entertaining stuff that you'll be able to associate with if you're in college or are a computer nerd. Some of the highlights are "C-64" which brings you back to the olden days of computing (or something) with stuff about running a bulletein board and using a Commodore 64, and "Sunshine Delay," "The Downside of Computer Camp" and "Indian Names" which have a great indie pop feel and are really silly and fun. So, indie pop kids everywhere: get this album! Total score 572 out of 572 |
