Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsBelle and Sebasitan Tigermilk Matador Records I love Belle and Sebastian. You should, too. If you aren't all ready familiar with them, Belle and Sebastian is a group of people from Scotland (not Ireland as I said before. sowwy) that make really really beautiful pop music that has the ability to be really touching both musically and lyrically. Listening them is kind of like watching a really good movie or reading a really good book that makes you want to cry, but with a beat. Most of their music is really well orchestrated, but not cheesily, but in a way that leaves it feeling sparse when it's necessary but then can come back and knock you over during the powerful parts of the song. So, I'm a Belle and Sebastian fan. This album is actually their first album, but it just got re-released by Matador, which is good since the original version was very rare and difficult to find so I wouldn't have ever been able to listen to it otherwise. Compared to their later two albums, this seems a bit rougher in some parts, but still has great songs that I now can't live without, such as "We Rule the School," "I Don't Love Anyone," "She's Losing It" and "Expectations," which are all as essential as "Me and the Major" and "Sleep the Clock Around". If you are a Belle and Sebastian fan, you have no choice but to buy this album sooner or later and it is way worth it. If you're not a Belle and Sebastian fan, you either haven't heard them before or there is something wrong with you. Total score: 724 out of 724 |
