Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsFrom Bubblegum to Sky Me and Amy and the Two French Boys Eenie Meenie And to think I thought I was taking a chance buying this album! This is one of the best albums I've heard all year and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because I didn't like the song "hello hello hi" too much. The only reason I really didn't like it is... well I thought that it was a different person singing on that song than on the other song on the 7". Not only did I think it was a different person, that's not the really embarassing part, I thought it was a different person with a different gender! Oh well. Now I know better. All of the songs on here are sung by Mario Hernandez from Ciao Bella, and they are all wonderful. Even "hello hello hi" which took me a while to warm to. The rest of them I immediately attatched onto. I spent every available moment of my life listening to this CD when I first got it. I know I have a tendency to get really obsessed about music that I like so that's not suprising, but this one is special, I think. It's wonderful, wonderful, magnificient indie pop, sort of along the lines of a poppier Sloan, especially on the songs "shaboon they said", "major j" and "you of summer". I think out of all the songs on the album, my favorites are "ask the space invader", which is an amazingly full, layered, and catchy pop song, especially considering that the band is basically one person, and my other favorites are "beat to beat" which has a hip-hoppity beat and it quirky as heck, and "my thousand years with robots" which I still love even after I've had the 7" that it is also on for a while. So yeah, you want this album. You need this album. At least you do if you're me. Total score: 932 out of 932 |
