Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsIda Insound Tour Support Series No. 11 Insound I'm gnawing my fingernails off in anticipation of the new Ida album. If it's as beautiful as the other Ida releases I've heard (I've been assured that it is) I'll probably lock myself away inside my room for days listening to it. But it's still a while away. I needed something to hold me over, and this does an admirable job of doing that. It's a fairly long (73 minutes) CD of live Ida recordings. Now, these aren't the best sounding, sound quality wise, tracks you'll ever hear, but the character and beauty that shines through more than compensates for that. If you're really bothered by poorly recorded live performances, you'll have to miss out on this, but if you're not and you love beautiful, folksy-ish but well orchestrated indie music you'll love it. Now more than ever I really want Ida to play a show near me. I knew all along that their music was beautiful, but there's also a whimsical side that comes through in these performances. I mean, they do Prince covers, you have to respect that. Still, Ida is one of my favorite bands to be depressed to, but there's always a reason to crack a smile even then.
