Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsIda Will You Find Me Tiger Style Records How do you objectively review an album that you've listen to so much and love so much that it has intricately woven itself into your consciousness? I dunno. I'm not even going to try. Pretty much any Ida album is that way for me and their latest one is no different. This album is so heartacheingly beautiful, both musically and lyrically, that I had never had any hope of escaping its grasp. Not only did I get it as soon as possible, but I took a train down to New York City for the release show. Now, I know that rabid fandom doesn't necessarily mean that you'll want the album, but now you know where I'm coming from. A few highlights of the album are the soothingly catchy "Shrug", which apparently is a bit of a homage to Prince, a wonderful remake of "Shotgun", originally from Tales of Brave Ida and the equally lovely "Past the Past". I don't think that anybody does soft, beautiful slowcore better than Ida. I'm not sure if it's even possible. Well, whatever, I love them. Images like "we never get past the past/ staring at the hole in the bottom of a dirty shot glass" (from "Past the Past") are so vivid and graceful that I could just cry. The whole album is just brilliantly written and breathtakingly beautifully performed, and just wonderful in general. Total score: 812 out of 812 |
