Kahimi Karie
K.K.K.K.K.
Le Grand Majestery

This is kind of music that makes you feel like you're such a cultured and hip person when you listen to it, even when that's not true. Kahimi Karie is a girl from Japan who lives in France and sings/whispers in French and English. There aren't many people who have her accent, I assume, and it's pretty cool to listen to. And lyrically, since Momus writes a lot of her songs, she can be fairly perverse, which makes it all the more fun. A couple of the songs here, "What Are You Wearing?" and "The Symphonies of Beethoven" are actually songs that appeared before on Momus' Little Red Songbook. I think it's probably more disturbing to hear Momus sing "My sailor suit is blue and if it weren't for you I'd take it off and leave it in a heap, right here on the street," but Kahimi does a pretty good job of making people nervous as well.

As for how the music sounds, it's sort of electronic retro-ey and pretty fun. Momus called it "Prog Folk" and that fits, too I suppose. Kahimi sings most of the time in a hushed whisper and sort of sounds like a twelve year girl whispering secrets to a friend. Or something. It feels French, if that means anything.

There are also a few remixes of some of the songs at the end, done by Shinco, Add 'N' to (X), Buffalo Daughter, and Hirohisa Horie. I actually like them, even though I'm not normally that big on remixes. The Shinco mix of "What Are You Wearing?" kinda makes me want to stab myself in the ears to make the simpletext voices stop, but I like it otherwise.

So yeah, Kahimi Karie rules. I think I like her last album better in some respects, but that might be just because I always tend to like bands' last albums better for some reason. But I absolutely love "Qu'est-ce que to veux?" even though I have no idea what it means and pretty much every song on the album has gotten stuck in my head at some point.

Total score: 781 out of 781
