One Star
Triangulum
March Records

To see where One Star sits in the musical plane, draw a triangle with verticies at Buffalo Daughter, Cibo Matto and Kitty Craft. They bounce around happily inside there. Which means that they have a combination of gloopy moog noises, strong beats that seem hip hop like at times, a few scattered samples, and a consistent flow of dreamy indie pop.

When you listen to the first track, "The Jelly is Set!" the first thought that comes to you (or at least me) is that it sounds a lot like CIbo Matto. It does, only more Japanese-sounding, which isn't really a bad thing for me. It's fun. I guess you could call One Star a happier Cibo Matto in some respects, but they also have a calmer and more electronic sound going for them. This is one of those albums that you can put on and forget what track you're on because you sort of get lost and dazed in it. If you like that kind of thing, go for it.

Total score: 318 out of 318
