Big Orange Crayonmusical thingsSpace Monkeys The Daddy of Them All Interscope Records I bought this album without having any clue that they had already had a superfamous smash hit single ("Sugar cane").Ê Really.Ê Its not surprising since that song really doesn't fit in with the rest of the album, and seems to have been kept on just to have a single to report to the label execs.Ê You know "Sugar Cane", its that song that was kinda hip-hoppy and had that line "sweet sugar cane in on me brain I don' wanna I don' wanna go insane" and so on.Ê Well this album sounds nothing like that.Ê They are a lot like the Stone Roses, with a stronger techno influence but minus the originality, creativity, intelligence, and listenability.Ê Its sample happy talentless Britpop with drum machine beats.Ê One of the biggest problems with the album is that there are basically two songs: the techno-ish one and the sappy other one.Ê The techno one is interesting on the first listen, but it is repeated, with modified lyrics and a few chord changes several times, while that sappy one is completely unbearable.Ê And they get major points off for rhyming "high" with "butterfly" in "Dear Dhinus".Ê Don't expect any major insight either: its all made to be danceable, not smart.Ê The Daddy of them All is kinda like candy: it's kinda sweet occasionally, but I don't want to listen to it too much because a lot of it will make me sick.Ê Its all sugar coating and no substance (or no substance that anyone would want to speak of). Total score: .3 out of 7 Ê |
